Curry Night

Stella invited me to attend a curry buffet with a group of new friends. I was thrilled by the prospect of enjoying the flavors of Indian cooking which I have missed in France. This curry night is held on the first Monday of each Month in Gorron at La Cuisine de Bubba’s. One has to reserve a spot to attend and then make sure to wear clothes with stretch.

I’m not sure why I continue to view buffet eating as a competitive sport. One would think that I would know better at this point in my life. In truth, growing up Carignan made me a lover of buffets and it hasn’t been until recently that I suffer from the consequences of their bounty. I used to be able to overeat, burp a few times, and feel great. Now, it seems I can’t do it.

I simply ingest, swell and suffer. I can’t sleep, sit, or just be comfortable. Now this is no one’s fault but mine and I realize this. The problem is when food tastes good, I struggle to exercise any moderation. Last night, I had to try all the curries, the onion bhaji, the poppadom, the naan, and yep, I even had cheesecake.

The atmosphere was warm and the smells of the beautifully made curries were amazing. Sadly, even now, remembering it, and subsequent to an uncomfortable, stuffed, and largely sleepless night, I continue to feel hungry for it. The breads were light and delicious and as expected when I dine at Bubba’s, I left completely satisfied.

Going forward I will continue to attend Curry night, but I will make a few adaptations. I will not eat multiple pieces of naan. I won’t take any rice. Dessert is simply banned as it really was the proverbial cherry on the cake of over indulgence. Finally, going forward the only fashion consideration I will take is the comfort of my chosen stretchy pants.
