Easter Comes To France

Easter morning had a luxurious start. I slept in with Sophie and only got up when I felt like it. (Which happened to be when Sophie told me to). I made a mug of gorgeous dark coffee and treated myself to croissant and pain de chocolate. I never eat pastry here unless it is an almond croissant that I can’t seem to pass up. It has been easier to avoid this temptation as unfortunately the boulangerie in my town has closed. This trip I haven’t had any treats so it felt exciting to go to a patisserie yesterday in Ceaucé and pick up these treasures. They didn’t disappoint and it occurs to me that I should be eating more pastry than I am. I’m going to die one day. That’s enough reason.

After breakfast, I took time to write and watched Dateline which always entertains. Something about hearing a story of lies, murder and twists is a satisfying way to start my day. Once complete, Sophie and I did our walk. The weather is decidedly cool and gray but all the flowers are blooming. My trails are covered in white petals from flowering trees. Lilacs and blue bells make the air almost sweet smelling. If only this period of Spring could last a bit longer. I only have so many vases I can fill with this amazing bounty,

After my walk I will make my second pavlova. I have been invited to spend Easter with Sean, Jo, and their family. I am doing a strawberry pavlova for dessert. Yesterday I did.a trial run and it came out nicely. I filled it with homemade chocolate chip cookies and shared it with a friend in town because I couldn’t waste it. It was a tiny bit more beige than I want for today so I will lower the oven temperature slightly. Sophie demands attention. Happy Easter to all my peeps celebrating.
