Hot as Hell

This will be a quick one because I didn’t really do much today. I feel like today I REALLY slowed down. Sure, I worked out, but, I also slept in, laid by the pool in two separate sessions, read a bit, watched some HGTV, and did a bit of shopping. I’m not really good at shopping. I’m reluctant to spend money and I don’t really like how clothes look on me because I perpetually see my thirteen year old self staring back in the dressing room mirror. I like to buy for the kids but I’m waiting for Ojai to do that.

Yesterday I felt pretty smug about what I believed was my adaption to the So Cal climate Certainly it was hot but I was walking, laying in the sun and not dying. At night, it cools down and I’ve had to get my jean jacket out a couple of times. Today was different. I think I’m still a heat tolerant hero but according to the news this area has just entered into a heat wave. The temperature is in the high nineties which isn’t that much higher but when the breeze doesn’t blow it gives sauna vibes. My feet sweat so signifciantly that I kept slipping out of my sandles. I carried a bottle of water (like Matthew) everywhere I went. There were a few moments crossing the shimmering 6 lane streets or a long stretch of parking lot when I was fairly certain I might die.

I have a memory from childhood which may or may not be real. I could swear it was though. I was watching the news with my parents when a random story came on about a woman who caught on fire spontaneously while walking outdoors on a city street in some place like Chicago or Minneapolis. The story said that there were no clear indications why she suddenly went afire but it impressed a fairly horrible image on my 6 year old imagination. Today, it occurred to me that I might be next. I felt compelled to research spontaneous human combustion which my brief research indicates is not documented. I’m going to keep carrying the water just in case. It is supposed to get hotter and hotter still over the weekend.
