Today I went to Matthew’s work and picked up our rental car because I had big plans. I had signed up online for a free introductory class at a pilates studio nearby. I have done mat Pilates before and frequently do the classes on the Peloton app but I have always been intimidated by the idea of the wires and pulleys and moving parts on the reformer. I could see myself falling off, hurting myself or breaking the machine. Anyhow, I got some grippy socks at TJ Maxx and headed over to the studio. A class was in session and there were people of all ages and body types. I had convinced myself it was going to be a bunch of perfectly plastic Real Housewives and I was greatful that the folks working out looked like mortals.

It turned our that I was the only one in the introductory class so I got a private lesson. I loved it. It was challenging for sure but no impact and very gentle. I’m going to go back next week and really take some classes. Fear faced. Check.
Next big excitement was a trip to a local laundromat. Every time I pay to wash my clothes I realize how grateful I am to have a washer and dryer in my home. Technically I don’t have a dryer in France but very few do. After cashing in my only bill- a twenty, I took my millions of quarters and loaded up a machine. I kind of got a lift choosing the “hot” temperature wash as I rarely do that at home. Goodbye gym clothes funk! While I waited for the clothes to cycle through, I walked in an adjacent neighborhood where it looked like “real” people lived. There were small homes on tiny lots that each had their own personality. They were frequently enclosed in chain link fences with astroturf. Most were neat as a pin and many had beautiful fruit trees, bouganvilla, and religious statues. I loved it.

After I folded my dried and very sweet smelling clothes I headed back to the hotel to pool and rest. I swam for like 15 minutes and it was glorious. I think we all should float more. It felt so nice to be held by the water with the warm sun on my face. I am getting ready to shower and pick up Matthew. Tonight the wine bar across the street has live music and I think that’s what we will do.
