Yesterday, The Day Before That, And So On….

I had a really busy week and I failed to properly keep my posts going. It is during times of exciting living that I fail to write. I convince myself it is important to be in the moment. There was some exciting living this past week.

On Wednesday, I took the train to Paris where I met my cousin Anne at the Hotel Litteraire de Swanne to begin a whirlwind three days. Unexpectedly and very serendipitously, I was able to procure tickets to Taylor Swift’s opening night in Paris. Now before you go rolling your eyes, please know this. I love this woman in spite of her popularity. She can write lyrics like few others. And I think she is a good, strong woman and I don’t want to defend her beyond that.

As soon as we met up, we went and grabbed lunch down the street at a tiny Thai restaurant. After, we walked towards Opera and began our desperate search for sparkly clothing items to wear to the show. We both thought we would walk into H&M and find several cheap, sparkly tops to pick from. WE WERE VERY WRONG. We went to Zara, Mango, Galleries Lafayette and tried on a few shitty, sparkly outfits that looked like hell.

After a brief cocktail break, we increased our pace (both walking and shopping). We did Zara, random boutiques and went to the Champs Elysées to continue our search. All to no avail. We were wiped out. Anne hadn’t slept more than a couple of hours and I was still recovering from the previous night’s anticipatory excitement where I woke every hour. We called it. We walked back to the hotel and grabbed dinner at a nearby cafe/combined brocante that was so cute we couldn’t resist.

We split the chevre salad and the tortellini and a beautiful bottle of wine. I ate two bread baskets. The owner appeared to hate us on entry and our overtired laughter only worsened his disgust. Whatever. I’m tired of apologizing for being American. For the most part, my experience of the French has been that they are open to getting to know me, and largely are very friendly. This dude was just a grouchy, bad apple. It was a shame because the food was good and the restaurant darling. Too bad for him. He will not get a free advertisement in my blog.
