I walk every day and I am so happy to see the buttercups, orchids, blue bells and daisys. The air smells sweet unless it is contaminated by farmers spraying hideous manure while the earth is dry enough to cultivate it. My garden is just incredible as well. My spring flowers are giving way to lilacs, wisteria, blue bells and ranunculus. The heathers are starting to fade just as irises begin their ephemeral bloom.
Most days I do something to improve upon this space I have inherited. I will weed, cut the grass, trim the hedges, or plant something. Today I cultivated my little veggie plot which I have decided will now be a cut flower garden. I’m not here to maintain the veggies anyway so I will spread seed and plant dahlia bulbs that I can enjoy in the fall when I come back.
I managed to buy myself a garden rake at the Arielle Brocante this weekend. It was 6 euros and only had one wonky tine. I had relied on borrowing Matt’s before and it was past time I purchased one for myself. I cultivated and leveled out my cut flower garden although I think it is still too cold at night for me to germinate seeds in the ground. It is not quite frosting but it is getting close.
I planted my window boxes with red geraniums. This year I did not choose the ivy geraniums as I wanted a bit more flower and less greenery. I’ve had the geraniums out back waiting for a couple of weeks so I’m not afraid of them being too bothered by the cold. There are protected up on the house and they get sun more than any other place in my garden.
I have filled the house with flowers. I have vases of Lily of the Valley next to my bed, blue bells, and pitchers of lilacs in every room. I made a pretty center piece with the multi-vase container mom gave me. It is bright green foliage and blues and reds and pinks. I love it.
