Sophie and I woke after a deep sleep. Strangely, we were both able to walk which I was uncertain of after our previous day’s mileage. We got up, dressed and headed back down to the quai. This time I let Sophie lead the way and she needed to explore the opposite bank of the river along the castle ruins. She chose a steep incline up the cliffside and I dutifully followed even though I told her my hamstrings were gnawing. We zig–zagged up to the top of the park and it afforded us a totally different perspective on the little village below.
I decided we better have some breakfast so we returned to the brasserie where I had eaten dinner on night one and had a couple of drinks. I selected an outside table and set up Sophie’s breakfast first. A waitress came out and took my order and soon we were both enjoying the view and our breakfast on our last morning. I had a baguette, beurre and confiture frais which is a half freshly baked baguette, butter and strawberry jam. The only problem from my perspective were the ratios. I had a a half loaf of bread but just a tablespoon of butter and a tiny pot of jam, I decided what was best was to only eat as much baguette as could be dressed. That way, I was happy and had not eaten a half loaf of bread before 9:00 am.
We climbed back up to the town center and checked out of the Celtic Hotel. All in all, I would say that Auray and the coast adjacent to it were wonderful to visit. My travel buddy loved it and we were both happy to smell the salt air and be outside accessing all the beautiful trails. I would definitely come back! I might even bring a human family member next time.
