Cows In The Mist

I’m back in France after a quick stopover for three days in Maine. I am some jet-lagged. California-Maine-France = TOO MUCH CHANGE. I am sleeping horribly and not entirely sure if I am coming or going.

My first few days were spent grocery shopping, unpacking and re-personalizing my house here. I love getting out my photographs and nick knacks to feel more at home. I even went as far as getting my mom’s china out and put it back in the hutch. Might as well get some use out of it while I’m here.

The plan is to be here until December 5th when I’ll return home for the holidays in Maine. Matthew will come here late November and spend two weeks with me in France. The plan is to get my little house on the market and make some moves towards finding a property that we can acquire for our B&B /event business. It is all a bit overwhelming so I’m taking it in steps. This week is all about re-entry. I have reconnected with my old friends, restarted yoga, and hope to meet with a realtor. I have also ripped out much of my overgrown garden which struggled with this summer’s heat and drought. I have massive piles of wisteria I have cut back and I’m determined to restore order to my oasis. The garden will be a large selling point for my house and I wanted it to look its best all seasons.

The cows. What was I referring to in the title? Just my awe at the beauty I saw while driving to yoga the other morning. The sun rises later here than in Maine. It is 8:30 before it really starts to get light. I drove through the countryside and watched the fog roll off the fields adjacent to the road making everything look a bit other-worldly. It was perfect to see the cows rising up out of the mist like four legged deities. It was so unexpected and symbolic of the contrasts I see in France. I guess you will have to take my word for it, but the cows in the mist at dawn were breathtaking.
