I am continuing to wait for my background check to get processed so I can begin my teletherapy job. It is an excruciatingly slow process. I have decided during this unexpected “down” time, I should seize the day and do some fun things. On Friday I went to Domfront as this was their market day. Domfront is a hilltop, walled, medieval town complete with Chateau and gorgeous cathedral.
I wandered through the market but was honestly underwhelmed by the choices. The fish looked good but I didn’t dare buy any given the fact that I was planning on spending a bit fo time wandering through the town. Instead of shopping I decided to sit in the gorgeous sunshine and sip a cappuccino at a cafe just outside the market. This capuccino was topped with whipped cream in addition to frothed milk and it was super yummy. I sat and marvelled at the many patrons sitting drinking alcoholic beverages at 10:45 in the morning. It is more common to see people drinking beer, wine or Calvados in the morning than coffee at these cafes. The French drink during the day and many of these bars and cafes are closed come evening time. Maybe that’s why everyone is so chill here.
I walked up into the old part of the town and I truly coudn’t get over the beauty. It reallly feels like you are walking on a Disney set and at any moment Cinderella is going to burst out of one of the houses singing and trailling birds and mice. On this visit I got to see the beautiful. plantings that are still flourishing in planters since we have not been touched by frost.
The best part of my visit was lunch. That probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Sitting outside in the sun, and eating the perfect Thai curry, it was hard not to feel lucky. This French Bistro—Au Bar Normand serves up traditional crepes and gallettes and also near-perfect Thai food. I’ve heard that the owner’s wife is Thai but one thing is definite. , in this place. Everything I’ve eaten here is perfect and in the most unexpected place!
